2018 AGM

Post30 May 2018 07:58

Just to tell you all that this year's AGM is to be held at the Steam Museum, Swindon, on Sunday 1st July at 12:30pm. A production glitch has meant FN 153 (June) is delayed by a few days but will be with you by the end of next week. Full details of the AGM appear in its centre pages.

I think it was great that so many A40’s made the trip and in that HEAT!
I overtook Derek.......eventually.....on the M4! I was so glad of my aircon but sad that Dusty stayed on the driveway!

I know that I kept us in the meeting for longer than necessary (agreed value!...I SO regretted mentioning it!) but didn’t feel quite so bad when we finally came outside......into the HEAT and away from the room aircon!

I would also like to say a BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE on the committee and elsewhere........who make our the club so special and maybe next years AGM will have a higher attendance... including me and Dusty!

Lovely to see you, Liz - and at least you made it: poor old Terry Smith broke down near Marlborough twenty minutes from the venue. With deep irony he'd left his A40 at home and instead took his Mk2 Golf which he and his son have been working on for a couple of years. All the major components have been changed or rebuilt and the fuel pump was to be the final bit. Guess what failed . . .

Bar and I eventually escaped the clutches of that wretched town but not before having to drive nearly a mile along a suburban road with speed cushions and ramps the worst I've ever experienced. Gab ran faultlessly, I'm pleased to say, but we were both very tired when we got home.

Poor Terry,
I wondered where he might be......
He would have made it double figures!

He was returned home courtesy of the RAC whose mechanic tried for over an hour to source a new fuel pump but, of course, being Sunday meant restricted opportunity. Terry was so frustrated and - being Terry - doesn't have a mobile phone, so even raising the RAC involved quite a trek to find a working phone box. All-in-all the event took several hours and he was mighty glad to arrive home in Southampton although hot, tired and hungry. Shoulda taken the A40 !

Now look 'ere young Stoney, on those occasions when I have to rock up to one of Terry's meets in my VW campervan, I do at least have the decency to park it away from the A40s!

And my belated thanks to Pete Alexander, ( in his A40 ), for being my taxi for the day.
