Gosport Vehicle Rally

Post by Chairman Ed » 29 Dec 2019 09:50

December 2019

Dear Club Secretary,

As 2020 draws near I am sure vehicle clubs will be thinking, or even confirming, their calendar of events to display vintage vehicles. With this in mind, I would like to draw your attention to Gosport’s annual Vehicle Rally, which will be held on the Summer Bank Holiday, Monday, 31st August 2020.

The rally is organised and manned by the Rotary Club of Gosport, Hampshire and it a fund-raising event for nominated charities. All funds raised go to charity and the Rotary Club gives its time freely in the lead-up, organisation and staffing on the day of the rally. This year over £3,000 was raised.

The Rally

There are numerous classes of vehicle, for example, vintage, classic, American, commercial and also motor bikes. To compliment the day there are amusements, attractions and stalls selling various merchandise and products. Refreshment stands and a fully licenced bar also participate on the day.
The entry fee will be £5.00 per vehicle, or £4.00 per vehicle if booked through a car club.

Location

The rally uses spacious grounds at Stokes Bay, Gosport and is a few yards away from the Solent with its Pebble Beach café, restaurant and bar. Should your club wish to come along and perhaps bring your own gazebo, for example, then this could easily be accommodated. A number of entrants this year did so and enjoyed a pleasant picnic.

Make a Weekend of it

For those wanting to make a weekend of it there are numerous hotels and bed and breakfast establishments, together with a camping and caravan park. Local attractions abound such as the forts, the naval dockyard, where one can enjoy exciting museums such as Mary Rose and HMS Victory. In Gosport, many years a submarine base, one can visit HMS Alliance and many other submarine displays. Water bus tours of the Harbour run regularly. For those with retail in mind, visit Gun Wharf Quays in Portsmouth which was modelled on the V&A shopping centre in Cape Town. There are hundreds of shops catering for all tastes and requirements.

What Next

If there is interest in this event, please contact the Secretary on sec.gosportvehiclerally@gmail.com and I will forward and entry forms to you, followed by posters and flyers nearer the time.

Yours sincerely
