Bonnet Catch Mk 1

Post by Geoffrey Floyd » 27 Mar 2020 20:01

Hello Everyone
I am hoping someone can help me.
I have dismantled the bonnet catch mechanism that is attached to the underside of the slam panel in order to clean it in the hope that it will operate more effectively , it had been sticking.
I have attached a photo of one of the plates that sits under the slam panel. The photo has been taken of this sitting upside down so that you can see the lug that is on the right hand side of the hole in the centre of the plate.
My question is when attached to the car does this lug sit to the right or left hand side of the car as you look at it from the front?
I do wish I had taken a photograph before dismantling!
Thank you in anticipation

And when the catch is reassembled, do check thoroughly that it engages securely otherwise the bonnet will fly open at about 45mph - ask me how I know!

Thanks for the advice.
I remember as a child a badly distorted bonnet and an extremely annoyed father when a mechanic at the local ford dealer failed to close the bonnet properly after servicing the family's Mark 1 Ford Cortina.
