Most expensive A40?

Who has seen this?
It's on e-bay but not yet on the vendor's website.(Bradley James Classics)

45K..... yeh, no missprint 45,000 pounds, almost - 44,495 to be exact!!

A race car apparently, with a slightly optimistic figure attached, I should think......
Nice paint job, it has to be said.

OK, there is (& should be) a spec sheet attached, but if I was spending THAT much dosh
I would be expecting the engine to be 'red lined' at AT LEAST 7K! At the moment,
I'm having great difficulty in understanding where the money has been spent/gone..
And some of the under bonnet cosmetics leave something to be desired......
Spot welds on O/S wing, mastic around the redundant heater vent..

It is quoted as making 143BHP (I seem to remember).... That's pretty impressive, if it's
true, from a 5 port 'A' series! And only 1298! 1293 or whatever, it should have read I think.

I wonder if anyone will 'stump up' the money. As you've (no doubt) already guessed -
it won't be me! Best of luck to them.

Welcome to the forums, jA40, and thanks for handing everyone such a good laugh. In these dark days any glimpse of humour has to be good. Although I wish the vendor the best of luck, I think the asking price must be based on the mechanical goodies bolted onto the shell which, on its own, is probably worth around £4k stripped. It'll be interesting to learn what the rest of the inmates on the forum may think!

interesting.........140bhp mmmmmmm would like to see that make it on a dyno, but race parts are expensive but no matter how much you spend on building a car you will never see it, and if thats one of paul claytons bodies its a very poor example, ive see others much better we as a club at last years NEC had that !!! yes i know that scottys would cost a lot more but you can see the difference ;)
and even pauls car was on par if not better than this one (my opinion) :)

Your absolutely right Stoney. We know this car well. The owner/driver sadly died last year, hence the sale. 143 HP is a very bold statement, ours runs at 133 HP in present state of tune, (measured on two separate rolling roads within an hour of each other) and this car can't live with it, never beaten us yet, not even close, when together. Parts are high price and build time costs money but we both thought a bit high asking price. Interesting to know if they get close. Good for the model again.

Oh and this is how tidy a race car can be. (bit biased I know).

Just looked at the ebay ad some more and spotted the red line at 6000rpm. No wonder it has a 3.9 diff. There is no way a 1298cc A series motor will give the quoted power at that red line. We make our max at 8200rpm and we can go to 9000+rpm if required and you need some very good parts inside to get there.

Well, I'm glad you ALL seem to agree with me! :)

Generally, with a competiton car, if one takes into account time & labour, it's usually best to buy one
already done. Not the case here I feel.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for someone to 'bite'
