Hello first post. First question, can window winders from a mark 2 be fitted to a mark 1. I don't have an A40 yet but would like to know if it is possible, please. Thanks Geoff

Welcome Geoff. Curiously, although the Mk1 lacked window winders, their door shells did/do have the necessary holes ready for installing the winding mechanism.

Very early doors are identified by a couple of lateral stiffening pressings just beneath the latches but these quickly disappeared to leave a smooth panel.

I intend to convert my road going MkI to wind up windows and have been assured by Simon that just the winder mechanism and the glass need to change as the vertical slide runners can remain the same, plus of course the hole in the door card. The latter item we will make in the existing card, even though the welded stripes in the card will not be quite correct, rather than fit the MkII card which has the hole. No one will notice when the little rocket overtakes them, they will be too busy trying to work out what just happened.

A word of warning Scotty: the additional weight of those two handles will affect the performance of your Mk1 so do be aware of a slight loss of response if you try overtaking other motorists . . .

I intend to only eat three crumpets for breakfast instead of four, just to compensate.
