Non motoring what is it used for

Three oil lamps from the Victorian era ,all three were used for the same purpose,and that was ??

Photographic safe lights used whenever working with un-fixed paper in a darkroom. Now I enlarged picture to see lens colour due to Mike’s clue on another post.

I thought that last clue would clinch it for you .They are indeed darkroom safelights from the 1800s ,the large one on the right is a "Cardinal Ruby lamp" and is the earliest of the three .The left one is a Lancasters "Rubralux". The smaller of the three is a "Paloma" portable ideal for travelling photographers and has a red and yellow lens as has the Rubralux .
The Cardinal has a single red lens.
