Very true Mike. I can't understand why the original number can't be kept with the car? Is it because there is mo paperwork.

Well, here’s the latest episode in this saga…..
I now have to get the car examined by Davies Motor Engineering on behalf of Applus Car Testing Service Ltd to ‘confirm [their] records are correct. So, it seems having Stoney go to the enormous trouble to kindly examine my car and testify to it’s authenticity, it was all for nought!
If they cannot come to me, I should ensure it is ‘roadworthy, taxed and insured and driven by a licensed driver’ and drive it to one of their centres - the nearest, I think, is Bristol. Hilarious really, as I cannot get any of the above done without a V5!!

Added to this, the letter was sent on the 12th and must be inspected within 3 weeks of the date of the letter………thanks to the postal strikes, it arrived today giving me until next Monday to sort it out. (Ho ho ho).

Does anyone want to buy a Mark 1 A40 Farina - I think I am getting close to giving up?!

don't give up! i had a load of hassle earlier this year,eventually getting an old motorcycle registered.won't bore you with the details..but got there in the end. expecting same again with a BSA i am about to apply for. if they won't come to you,is it possible you could trailer the car to them?

I did have this email this morning…from a team leader in specialist registrations

‘Good Morning,
We are currently looking into your application and I will look into whether the vehicle does require an inspection or not.
Please don’t be alarmed, your vehicle won’t be decommissioned. DVLA have the right to inspect any vehicle that is being registered within the UK, however I will look over the paperwork you have submitted and make a decision on whether this is necessary or not.
Many thanks for your patience’.

Apparently the inspection is free and they will come to you - you just have to make sure someone over the age of 16 is present when they turn up. I just need to find a teenager as I can’t get the time off work….
Not too bad, although if that is what they wanted, it would have been helpful to say so 5 months ago.

I wonder if they are doing this because they are considering allowing me to keep the original number (too much to hope for, I know)!?

I had an email at 08:50 to say they didn’t need further evidence and an email just now (I gratefully responded to the first one and asked whether I could keep the original number):

‘Unfortunately it hasn’t been given the same registration mark. This decision was made by a different department that have said not enough evidence was provided to be able to do this. There will be a letter that you receive soon from them and it explains the reasons and how you reapply for the registration mark.

I wish I could help with this but unfortunately it’s out of my hands. The new registration mark will be 426 XVX and it should be registered before the end of the day.

So there we go, it was actually finally sorted out in an hour or so in the end.
At least it’s a memorable number, and it looks like there is a way of applying for the original in time.

At least it's NOT an unused Scottish number with SV, SK etc in it. I think the unused Welsh ones were K* etc.
