Gentlemen, our new member 4337 Ian Sadofsky from North Ferriby in East Yorkshire has bravely undertaken the restoration of XVS 629, a tired old Mk1 Countryman which is in need of some polishing...

Ian hopes some members might be able to throw light on the old girl's past history and offer some advice on how to tackle her restoration.

I'm hoping Ian will join us here on our website so please extend to him our usual friendly welcome.

Ian's obviously not a bloke to let grass (or rust) gather under his feet. He's just e-mailed me with the current state of play on the shell and I must say he appears to be really cracking on with it. Derek has supplied the necessary panels and things are certainly progressing well.

I particularly like the fact Ian's preserved the Monte Carlo stickers on the side windows! Badges of honour, and it won't matter how grubby they become, 'cos they're part of the car's history.

He's been seriously busy with the shell and is making good progress but still cannot unearth any history for the car, which seems curious seeing as it sports those three Monte stickers.

Wonder if he knows the original registration :?: That's an unused Scottish one. They're used when original reg's are sold. ( I hate them..... blatantly obvious when some mercenary is more interested in money  ). It's original number is part of its history too :!:

XVS 629 has been owned previously by two Club Members.

2580 Peter Collier around 1995
3196 John Fowler around 2002

A possible original reg of "PEE 251"

Those stickers dont look like Monte Carlo Historique ones. Any chance of a close up?
