Practical Car & Classic Resto Show 2023

Evening All,

I got down to the practical car and classic show today. It only felt right to head down in Oscar my MK1 A40, in car park one it looked like he was the only classic that had dared to venture out in the rain this morning! In fact, I would take a punt and say that Oscar was the only Austin A40 Farina at the practical car and classic show this year!

The show was great! Some seriously impressive resto work on the cars, my favorites however were the humble cars that had made it through their lifespan with very little work so far, testament to their owner(s) for nursing them through the years.

Footman James had a lovely display of "barn finds" with the area adorned with straw bales and I spotted one car with a boiled sweet stuck to the boot lid, your imagination can conjure up the story of how that came to be....it didn't appear to be a recent addition!

The autojumble was an interesting place, my first time visiting one. It amazes me how the stall holders know what everything is on their stand. The number of items on some of them was incredible, each seemingly with its own story...utterly wonderful. I didn't make any purchases but my friend bagged himself a beautiful picnic set which when boxed up looked like a expanded pasting table but upon opening had an amazing array of plates, cutlery, and even champagne flutes! He also came away with an electric pump for his washers, high torque starter motor, and some other bits and bobs. I did consider a Dynamator which was at a show special price of £160 but talked myself out of it because at the moment Oscar is running so so well and I don't want to upset the balance

I'm not even a year into owning Oscar yet but I'm already itching to sell up my Volvo V70 and look for something a little older as my daily, maybe a Mercedes 260e, a Jeep XJ, or another Swedish barge...perhaps a 240 or 740! Let me know what you think.

I didn't get many pictures at the show, I have recently started up a channel on YouTube (rustenuts) so tend to focus on trying to grab some videos where I can. Hopefully I will get a video up this week of the show, Oscar tends to feature in most of them ;)

Anyway, here are a few of the limited pictures my friend Liam snapped. I hope you all had the best possible weekends!

So glad you had a nice time at the show! Don't worry as my car was out and about to today. Oddly enough mine developed a charging problem today so giving in and putting an alternator on!

"our" spares guru Derek was there (not in his A40 Countryman though) in his never-ending search for suitable spares suppliers. That man is a hero.
