Bob High RIP

Bob was an early member, joining us in 1983, and was the very capable organiser of the Club's annual general meeting/social weekend during the years when we held it in Ancaster Hall, Nottingham University.
He was a very solidly-built Welshman from the Valleys who brooked no argument (complainants might as well try arguing with a giant lump of Welsh slate!) but who was very fair when he recognised a true problem.
Our evenings' "relaxation" sessions in the University's bar became the stuff of legends!
Rest in peace old friend.

So sorry to see this. I remember seeing this chap in an article a few years ago from back in the 80s.
I gather he had been in poor health for some time

RIP Bob
Must have met him as I visited a BIG meet at Nottingham.

Yes Liz, 35 years ago we (and our A40s) were a lot younger! I can only find one glimpse of Bob, on page 10 of FN 34 from September 1988. Here's the front page, which shows just how many cars used to turn up for the weekend event..
...and here's the image from page 10...
Bob and his distinctive beard can just be glimpsed in the far left-hand corner at a massive enlargement.
The following edition that December carried, on its front cover, the first meeting of the Wessex Group.
Sadly, after a 35-year run, the planned one for next month might just be the final hurrah unless a miracle happens.

I’ve seen another article on him too but I can't think where.

A great man as I remember. Found a photo with Bob in it from Nottingham AGM, but again not really a close up.
I think it was 1986 ?

Thanks for sharing this photo, Paul. The Big Man never wanted to be "front & centre" but was quite content to work his magic in the background.
