I am so sorry to have to tell you that Ed died this morning. He had been in hospital in Shrewsbury for a while but took a turn for the worse a few days ago. A word of warning Scotty: the additional weight of those two handles will affect the performance of your Mk1 so do be aware of a slight loss of response if you try overtaking other motorists . . .

Good work Scotty. I had the privilege of watching the welder at work closing the joint. Seems this wasn't done during manufacture but UCE 13's shell needed to be as stiff as possible to withstand the stresses of the race circuit.

Welcome Geoff. Curiously, although the Mk1 lacked window winders, their door shells did/do have the necessary holes ready for installing the winding mechanism. Very early doors are identified by a couple of lateral stiffening pressings just beneath the latches but these quickly disappeared to leave ...

Be advised that connecting the top seam to the lower seam beneath the side windows upper panel can test the patience of a saint. The joint comprises interlocking lips and I believe that the two panels were assembled before being added to the shell as a single unit.

While you can, have a good look at the structure of the plenum chamber from inside the cabin while it's exposed. As our Sam will confirm with feeling, repairs here at any other stage in the car's life are eye-wateringly expensive.
