Re: Our Chairman
Thirty-five folk attended on a beautiful sunny day, including four A40-ites (spares Derek, editor Martyn, my wife Bar and me). At the wake, Sally made a point of coming to our table and thanking us for being there. I did wonder whether to take Gab but eventually decided not to; although the VW campe...

Spring meet April 2025
Many thanks to Teresa and Mark Johnson for once again hosting the Wessex Group's gathering at Penton Mewsey community hall. Eight A40s delivered their owners safely to darkest Hampshire for the afternoon's picnic from places as far apart as Weston-super-Mare, Seaford, Maidenhead and Banbury as well ...

Our Chairman

He was admitted to a nearby hospice but sadly was too weak to fight the illnesses. Morphine removed all his pain and his body was able to just ...

Re: window winders
A word of warning Scotty: the additional weight of those two handles will affect the performance of your Mk1 so do be aware of a slight loss of response if you try overtaking other motorists . . .

Re: New Garage Find - Suffolk
Good work Scotty. I had the privilege of watching the welder at work closing the joint. Seems this wasn't done during manufacture but UCE 13's shell needed to be as stiff as possible to withstand the stresses of the race circuit.

Re: window winders
Welcome Geoff. Curiously, although the Mk1 lacked window winders, their door shells did/do have the necessary holes ready for installing the winding mechanism. Very early doors are identified by a couple of lateral stiffening pressings just beneath the latches but these quickly disappeared to leave ...

Re: New Garage Find - Suffolk
Be advised that connecting the top seam to the lower seam beneath the side windows upper panel can test the patience of a saint. The joint comprises interlocking lips and I believe that the two panels were assembled before being added to the shell as a single unit.
