First insurance.
Saving my elderly father in law £400 on his car insurance this week by shopping around got me thinking about the cost of it and how far its come. My first car, An accident damaged 1964 A40 i'd repaired in my lunch breaks and Saturday afternoons as an apprentice in a BMC dealers bodyshop, hit the road in September 1974 when I passed my test. My insurance was Sun Alliance TPF&T, and was £76 a year! A slight mishap in the first year meant a new front wing (again!), and was dreading the renewal =£99!! The good old days.....

Ah, but back then, the insurers considered you young and therefore high-risk with an old banger. Now you're a (bit!) older and possessing a classic car, you'd probably be quoted not a great deal more, considering the passing of the years.
