Carpet fitting

Hi all,
I'm just about to send an order to Coverdale for a set of carpets. This may be a daft question but how are they fitted? Old MGs I've had were either glued or had press studs fitted to the horizontal pieces. Recommendations gratefully received! Thanks in advance. Clive

The heelboard and inner sill areas should ideally be glued as should the vertical elements of the front footwells at the point where their uppermost inboard parts meet behind the heater input unit. Care must be taken not to foul behind the foot pedals.

(Just thought - my Mk 1 had no Coverdale carpet supplied for her inner sills because originally they were covered with black vinyl but I believe the Mk 2s were carpeted from new.)

Thanks Keith. Daft question but with underfelt does that only go under the footwell carpet?

u/lay to footwells front and rear, gearbox/ transmission tunnel ,front toe/foot board and under front seats you can also put a piece under the rear seat (if you have one ) for noise insulation.

That's great, thanks Mike. The only bit that worries me is If the car leaks or not, she's not been out of the garage on a rainy day yet!
Memories of previous Austin's and MGs with indoor pools and having to drill holes in the footwells!

Okay then, buy the carpets ('cos they'll never get cheaper!) but don't fit them until the car's been parked outside for a rainy week or two.

Principal leaky areas are the bottom corners of the front and back screens and that blasted plenum chamber (which is a real pain to repair - search this website for all the gory details!)

Rather than wait 2/3 weeks use the garden hose on spray to simulate rain .Spray it for 10 mins check for leaks and repeat until you are happy with it.
That is exactly what we did back in the day when the A40 was a current model but used the Niagra power wash in place of a domestic hose.
