I could have cheated and Googled the bloke but I probably wouldn't be any the wiser! My musical knowledge (what there is of it) ended pretty much when the sixties ended!

Re: Know who he is then ?
Well, he was well known by the 60s end. He founded the biggest band on the planet !

Can't have this '..biggest band on the planet.' There were some mighty bands out there. The one you are talking about specifically were big and good, tremendous record sales and huge following but so were so many others and strangely enough the real story of all the music of the period and all the bands, was how one person started something, others joined and left and other bands morphed and developed for the same happening to them and on and on it went, with various members appearing in loads of different lineups. Some worked and some didn't. This guy was one of the true greatest exponents of his particular instrument, a joy to see and listen too.

Re: Know who he is then ?
Not my actual thoughts Scotty. That observation was the perceived opinion of most musos back in the 70s. I saw them at Earls Court in '75.
It's an era thing......The Beatles were the biggest band on the planet in the 60s. Of the initial unmentioned band, Pink Floyd ran them close in the 70s.

Re: Know who he is then ?
Interesting little note regards Pink Floyd.
Our lead vocalist in The Crew, Terry Stoodley was at Cambridge studying Architecture with some other lads. He approached us one evening at a regular gig and asked if we would play at a small hall in Newmarket, as a group of the lads he was at Cambridge with, had formed a little band and they had their first booking to do an event in this little hall. One problem they only knew three songs and asked if The Crew would fill out the rest of the night, some three hours. We duly turned up set up our gear and PA for both bands to use and that was the start of a band called The Pink Floyd Experience.

Re: Know who he is then ?
Yes, of course. BIG Ferrari connoisseur.
I went to Ingliston, ( Edinburgh for those not in the know ), with friends about 30 years ago. They were racing a mid 50s Peugeot 203. (Not this actual one ).
While there, Mr Gilmour rocked up. Changed in the small loo on the site and, ( in his particular race ), carefully ambled round last in his alloy bodied XK120.......
