Pleased with the car on Saturday with a mostly dry Wiscombe.
Best time was 53.21 which placed me 4th out of 10 in the class.
Back to Wiscombe this coming Saturday (MG Car Club) so hoping to see an improvement if it doesn't rain!

Hi There,
We have obtained an entry for the Monte Carlo Historique and one of my many jobs is now tracking down a "winter tyre" that fits the 13 inch wheels.
We are currently on 185/60/R13 on the back and 165/65/R13 on the front not through any great design just what was on the car when we got it.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Frazer has just joined our Club and he and dad (who is 79) want to do the 2023 Monte. Club member Chris Mockridge has very generously offered to give as much advice as he learnt when he ran the Monte a few years ago.

I know that any pointers will be gratefully received!

I would seriously consider same tyres front and rear on such an event just from the point of view of spare tyre capacity.

Exactly. No point running different size front/back. Unless it's going to be on a drag strip!
My personal opinion is that 185 is too wide anyway. The event 'Regulations' may specify which
tyres are permitted.

Hi
I have recently bought a 1959 Mk1 which is semi prepared for historic road rallies. It is currently sitting on 6 inch Minilites with 185/70/13 Yokohamas and really that wheel and tyre combination is just too big. I have read the previous posts and favour a 165/65/13 tyre instead. Can I ask if standard 5 inch MG Midget minilites / minilite copies will fit.
As regards exhausts this car has a side exit exhaust which I think is just too noisy. Where is the best place to go for a two box system with a 41mm pipe ? The car has a lovely manifold which looks newish and that is 41mm.
Thanks
Stuart

Thanks for that information. I have contacted Maniflow. My exhaust diameter is 41mm and both the 4-2-1 manifold and the exhaust look fairly new but the exhaust just seems to too noisy. I have borrowed a noise meter and will take some readings.

Can I ask another question regarding halfshafts. My car is a 1098 with about 75bhp according to the rolling road printout. Do I need to buy some two piece halfshafts from Peter May ?

The strong half shafts do take away any concern regards breakage. If the shafts Peter is still selling both have RH thread nuts on the ends make sure they are tight with thread lock as well, as the near side have come undone under heavy load. We are trying to get some machined with a LH thread. I spoke to Peter about these a couple of years back and he may be offering them now.
