Oulton Park Swinging Sixties

Post by Nik » 27 Apr 2024 10:55

I just saw these on Facebook, so it looks like 2 A40s racing, No 3 David ROSE, Austin A40 Farina 1140cc and No 20 Mark CLOUTMAN Austin A40 1380cc. There will also be loads of spridget and the Hammond MGB is back again, with a Hammond listed as one of the drivers, could be Richard or his daughter probably not Mindy.

You can usually watch the race on The CSCC youtube page https://www.youtube.com/@ClassicSportsCarClub or watch the lap times and track positions on https://livetiming.tsl-timing.com/241764 and don't forget to press the Commentary button or you'll miss the action.

Race should start 14:30 (today 27/04) but could start earlier, it a 40 minute race usually with a mandatory pitstop.

Thanks Nik. I can't see that it's on YT yet but have subscribed to the CSCC channel.

Cheers,

No some circuits don't do it, I'm guessing Oulton Park is one of them, but in the next couple of days a few drivers usually post their in car videos. Photos can be found on David Shellard's site, I will add a link when I get back.

We have helped Mark with the Pink car for a few years. He brought the car in for a set up last week before the trip north. This year he is trying an engine he is developing with a drag racing engineer who has a workshop at his property and it has had some problems, this weekend the cam belt failed. We are still to hear the full details when we speak to him during the week. David Rose did well in the other car, in I think his first race and won his class. Keeping the A40s out there.

Many moons ago, working for a large distributors in nearby Northwich, I spent many a weekend taking our Breakdown to Oulton Park to tow 'mishaps' in various states of dismemberment back to the pits. Indeed, some Farinas were involved. Later, I had a VHS tape (long lost) which hilariously showed the antics of a novice racer in a black A40 seemingly trying to lap Oulton without touching the round black tarmac bit! Would dearly love to unearth this again, it was classic viewing!
