Sticky fingers?

Post by Keith Bennett » 24 May 2026 12:00

Just been helping my neighbour untangle nylon string wrapped around his ride-on mower. The underside of the cutter housing had been liberally coated with thick black grease and Pete was bewailing the fact that he'd have to drive to Halfords for some hand cleaner.
Fear not, I cried; put a pile of sugar in the palm of your hand, add a squirt of washing up liquid, and vigourously rub it well into your paw.
He was astonished at the result and (tongue in cheek) I passed on our Scotty 's trick of pouring a mixture of boiling water and Daz into a DISCONNECTED ! petrol tank to clear it of sludge.
Pete drives an expensive late plate plasticmobile and always looks rather pityingly on me and Gab, but he and his soft clean hands look on us now with a little more respect!

Quite right, Michelle. The UK is currently basking in sweltering heat and Pete was seemingly unaware that old, thick grease is so monumentally sticky especially in heat like today. Now, he's one third my age and - you're quite right - us older folk have accrued the wisdom of our years. Thanks to sites like ours, when I fade away, these little pieces of deposited knowledge will live on.
