Carpets!!

Post by Brian67 » 27 Dec 2019 18:33

Hi everyone,
hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I'd like to wish everyone a Happy new Year!!
I have been working away on the restoration of my A40 and now have a lot of parts needed to help finish it.
I ordered a carpet set recently and it arrived just before Christmas. I was quite pleased when I opened it but this soon changed when I trial fitted some of the pieces. Almost every piece needs altering! I have most of the original carpet from my car and when I overlayed it with the new one the differences were plain to see.
Has anyone fitted new carpets and if so who did you order it from. I will be contacting the company I ordered mine from as soon as they open in the new year. I've attached some photos to show the discrepancies.
As usual any information would be greatly appreciated, Brian

I had mine from Coverdale ( MK1 ). Good fit but some minor cutting needed. They supplied inner sills but obviously not needed.

Did you notice if the pieces for the boot are that different?

Yes, my Mk1's came from Coverdale too - the middle of three choices of quality - and as Ed says (above) the inner sills pieces aren't needed. Also, the rear seat's heelboard piece isn't needed; both areas were covered in black vinyl material at the time of manufacture.

Mike has asked whether your car is a Mk1 or Mk2. That's important to know, because the interior dimensions of the cabins' floors differ due to the lengthened wheelbase of the Mk2. Might this be the cause of the measurement discrepancies in your carpets?

Hi Brian.

The pieces in the boot on mine are rubber.

I've a Mk2 and there are no vinyl pieces. I really hope they have sent me the wrong one, otherwise it's a very poor pattern!

Brian, Your not the first Club Member to notice the differences in the carpet pattern from Coverdale. Some have got very upset and even sent them back.

My car has a Coverdale set fitted. It too needed trimming, but personally I didn't mind this too much. I guess Coverdale have allowed overage to their pattern and i've not known of one which is too short. Maybe Coverdale should state that some pieces may need trimming to fit individual cars?

Onced trimmed and fitted they do look very good though.
