Hi all!

After nearly 2 weeks of Covid isolation, it was great to finally collect my A40 a week last Thursday.
I was the lucky bidder on the Ebay Solihull Countryman car, and very pleased to get it home in one piece (on my trailer). Dave was right about the brakes-they really are awful!
It’s great to join another car club, and I must say what good first impressions I have of the club in general, and in particular the club magazine – good contribution from members, interesting editorials and lots of info re spares etc. I was really impressed with the spares available, with Club Lotus I don’t think anything is on offer.
I’m not much good at postings, but I think I may need plenty of advice with brakes, gearbox etc, so I hope to get some help on these and all other aspects of A40 ownership.
We’ve recently moved to New Arley, just north of Coventry, so hope to meet local A40 owners soon.
I’m very interested to see photos of original interiors/engine bay etc. so that I know which way to go.
I’m really looking forward to getting the A40 on the road – I so desperately wanted one when I was 18 years old!

Welcome John. Great to have you on board. You'll find ALL the advice/help you'll ever need right here on this forum. Queries answered very quickly too ! !
Countryman's are scarce and very desirable. Interesting is the fact that virtually half of Mk2 production were actually Countryman's. They usually had a hard life due to the ease of the rear loading.
Re Lotus.....I think the point there is that there's a fair few Lotus specialists in the marketplace. For our A40s...... :- there's NONE ! ! The club spares facility is superb. Derek @ Spares Central has/is doing a fantastic job.
Oh, a last thing, I'm in Coventry. Bad luck eh
If in doubt....kick the Ruskies OUT ❗

Welcome. I too have embraced the club and forum since I joined 2 years ago, and can honestly say it's changed my life. Not sure it's for the better, but changed! Seriously, as Dave says, help and camaraderie is always here, good luck with your A40!

Welcome to the club! I hope that you have a lot of fun with you A40. I got my countrymen 3 years ago and I'm over the moon with it! Please do send us updates with the car. We all love to see them.

Aha, another poor sucker joins the madhouse!

John, the little band who comprise the Club's on-line presence (around 25 out of some 400+) is a knowledgeable community who are only too willing to support new and the more established members.

Now you're in our clutches, do please consider sending FN a potted history of your A40 lusts since your teenage years and I'd be pleased to publish it along with photos of your new passion.

Cordially yours, editor Keith

Welcome John, from the other side of Birmingham!

I'd been wondering who that car in Solihull would end up going to, and I'm glad that it seems to have gone to a good home. We're fortunate to have a knowledgable club here who seem to know the answer to every question, so no doubt there will be someone able to give you whatever advice you need, no matter what it is.

I'm currently getting my own A40 (also bought from ebay) back on the road after its six-year stay at the luxurious Garage du Stourbridge, and they are fortunately rather easy to work on. The fact that they share a variety of BMC parts definitely helps.

You may not have gotten an A40 when you were 18, but better late than never!
