Having spent more time yesterday trying to get the gearbox filler plug back in through that access hole in the tunnel without dropping it on the floor than the exercise of getting oil in the hole I actually think a plug with a long extension is a great idea!

That has cracked me right up along with peoples replies!! Phill, I know just what you mean, that is what I am always doing dropping the plug on the floor! Amazingly last time I checked g/box level I managed to fit the plug first time!

Simple solution there, make a new BIGGER access panel with some self tappers.

Even simpler.
Place a short piece of string across socket push g/box bung in socket ,string should be enough to grip bung allowing you to poke socket with bung through access hole install and just pull/waggle socket away releasing the grip of the string .
Used this method many times and it works first time every time .

After 'muttering' several times brain engaged and I remembered that some time ago I bought one of those magnets on an extending arm from one of those 'got everything here somewhere' stalls at the NEC. Even found it quickly - put plug on end of magnet and it was good enough to start the tread off. (Now just need to keep it somewhere I can find it for next time!)
