Producing proper moulds is a true delicate job. But then you are able to produce the product many times. If the professional calculates all this efforts for the moulds and one final product of each part, well that could be the price yes. What would be his market for A40 Farina? Parts like boot lid and tailgate need two moulds: an inner and outer. Those two products need to be glued together.
Been there-done that: made all moulds and parts for a rallycross version of the famous Peugeot 306 Maxi. Count front & rear bumper, bonnet, passenger door, bootlid, 4 wings. Parts produced in kevlar-carbon

Re: Glass fibre panels
Just to keep some info together ref tailgate stays...I had a look at the Innocenti Combinata and it had the mechanical variety similar to the Countryman rear hatch.
Combinata:
Countryman, shorter than the Combinata:
..and how the Italians constructed the hatch..
How it was done on my car, it looks very wrong and doesn't work, so I'll be copying the Combinata.
Cheers,
Clive
